Microblading Eyebrow Recovery & Aftercare: How-to Guide

Microblading Eyebrow; with microblading your eyebrows, post-care is very important to the appearance and longevity of your new brows. The entire healing process will take 4-6 weeks depending on your body regeneration and age. Your new eyebrows will go through several phases during the healing cycle. Do not let any water, lotion, soap, or makeup touch your eyebrow area during the first 7 days after your procedure.

The pigment will appear very natural looking immediately after the procedure. The color of the pigment will appear much darker the next day. Apply the aftercare ointment given by your brow technician, make sure to follow instructions given. This can be done once at night time, but be sure to use the ointment sparingly as your skin needs to heal itself. Continue to apply the ointment for 7 days.

The following activities must be avoided during the post-microblading eyebrow procedure:

  • Swimming
  • Excessive sweating through exercising
  • Swimming
  • Hot sauna, hot bath, or Jacuzzi
  • Sun tanning or salon tanning
  • UV/UVA Rays or chemicals
  • Picking, peeling, or scratching of the micro pigmented area in order to avoid scarring of the area or removal of the pigment
  • Household cleaning where you can get specks of dust on your brow
  • Drinking alcohol in excess, as it may lead to slow healing of wounds
  • Driving in open air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles, or motorcycles
  • Touching of the eyebrow area except for when rinsing and applying the post-care cream with a cotton swab

Wash your face carefully around the eyebrow without getting water on the treated area. During the shower, keep your face away from the showerhead or take a bath.

The entire process of Microblading healing process will take 4-6 weeks depending on your body regeneration and age. Your new, fresh, and fluffy brows will go through several phases during the cycle. Itching and flaking may appear during the first seven days post-microblading procedure.  However, experience has shown that by following these after-care instructions, these symptoms may quickly disappear.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions that might help your Microblading Eyebrow aftercare recovery be smooth-sailing:

1. What can I expect right after my first treatment?

The most important thing to remember before, during, and especially after your first Microblading Eyebrow treatment is that the color will look very dark at first.

Your eyebrows will look thick and heavy, people panic sometimes because it’s very, very dark, but within the first week, it will fade by 50%. You just need to be patient.

After that first treatment, you can expect your eyebrows will feel somewhat tender and sore to the touch, but this should be resolved within a few days. Tylenol can help if it’s bothering you a lot, and apply Vaseline 3 or 4 times a day is going to make them feel a lot better.

It’s also important to know that for the first week it will be obvious you have had something done to your eyebrows. If you’re hoping to keep your microblading treatment a secret, you’ll need to schedule it at the start of a vacation or holiday period.

2. Can Microblading Lead To An Infection?

As with any open wound or exposed area under the skin, infection is certainly possible with microblading, but with the proper care, it’s fairly easy to prevent.

Avoid chlorinated pools, saunas, gyms, and sweaty equipment, and avoid touching your own eyebrows in general unless you’ve just washed your hands. After 7 days, your microblading treatment is fully healed and the infection risk is nearly non-existent. It would be incredibly rare to get an infection after the first week of healing

3. Can Microblading Eyebrow Cause Scarring Or Keloids?

No. Keloids are from going too deep into the dermis layer, which results in scar tissue and hardness in the skin. Instead, microblading is as fine and as shallow as a simple paper cut.

4.Does Microblading Eyebrow Cause Scab, Flaking Or Peeling?

Yes. Scabbing a little is very normal for Microblading Eyebrow. During the first week, microblading clients are recommended to gently wash and wipe their eyebrows with a mild soap (avoid soaps with added fragrances as they can irritate the skin) and then use a cotton ball to gently apply Vaseline.

Most importantly, don’t pick or scratch your eyebrows. And be careful when washing, too, because rubbing the scabs off before the healing process is complete can actually remove some of the pigmented eyebrows permanently, compromising the overall appearance of your treatment.

5. How Soon Can I Wash My Face Or Take A Shower?

You can shower and wash your face immediately, but you need to be incredibly gentle or avoid your eyebrow area entirely.

Do not apply direct pressure or rub your eyebrow area. This can result in improper healing, infection, loss of pigment, and irritation.

6. How Soon Can I Wear Makeup?

You can wear makeup right away. However, you need to be extra careful when applying any makeup powders. If makeup does get into the recently treated eyebrow area, it can lead to infection and irritation. Applying Vaseline to your eyebrows immediately before applying makeup provides a barrier of sorts that will help keep dust from your makeup brush from reaching your eyebrows.

7. What Can Cause Microblading To Fade More Quickly?

These are three things you should absolutely avoid during the first week of the healing process: Sun, chlorine, and saltwater.

8. How Often Do I Need Treatments To Maintain My Microblading Eyebrow’s Appearance?

You only need to visit a microblading technician every two years or so.

9. Can I get microblading if my eyebrows have been tattooed?

Yes, definitely. At browbeat studio, we’ve had a lot of clients who got their eyebrows tattooed when they were younger, for example, and they just don’t want them to look so dark or obvious anymore. Microblading can soften tattooed eyebrows, give them a different look, and adjust them so they match your age, or your hair if it’s changed color.

10. Can I Do Microblading Eyebrow If I Have Sensitive Skin?

It is always important to share any concerns that you might have about the procedure with your microblading expert, and this is even more important for those with sensitive skin. Your microblading expert should be able to answer any questions that you might have about how your skin will react to the procedure.

One alternative to microblading that you might want to consider is micro shading. While microblading uses strokes to mimic hairs, micro shading fills in eyebrows with small dots. This technique is often favored by those with sensitive skin as the smaller dots are said to cause less irritation.

As long as you follow the aftercare instructions before the procedure starts, you will absolutely have amazing brow results.

Remember that this is probably the single MOST IMPORTANT part of the entire microblading process so make sure to follow it!
